Life does not depend on matter; on the contrary. life makes a tiny body greater than a huge one. For example. it is through life that a fly or a bird is ‘greater’ than a mountain. Life enables a honeybee to claim that the whole earth is its garden to establish relations with all flowers and enter into transactions with them. Again. the more refined matter is. the more developed and active life is. The development and activity of life are also not in relation with the size of the body. A fly or a flea is more active and has sharper senses than a camel or rhinoceros. |

This world is the arena where God manifests His Will from behind the veil of what we experience and describe as ‘natural causes’. but life is the result of the direct manifestation of His Name. the Ever-Living. So. as long as science insists on its positivistic. even materialistic. viewpoint. it will never penetrate the mystery of what life is. |

A consensus has been formed especially among the followers of religions that there have always been some who see and converse with angels. jinn. Satan and other spirit beings. So. the establishment of the existence of a single individual is enough to prove the existence of the whole species of spirit beings. Had the angels not existed. and if a single angel had not been seen or the existence of one or numerous individual angels not been established through observation. would it have been possible for such a general belief to continue. and had this belief not been based on strong evidences. could it have come down to the present time in spite of the changing of ideas and beliefs along with the passage of time? Therefore. we can conclude that the religious belief in the existence of the angels and other spirit beings is based on the experiences which the Prophets and some other godly persons have had with them. and this has been narrated by reliable sources. |

Angels are purely spirit beings. They stand for the purely good aspect in existence. while Satan and his descendants represent the purely evil aspect. God is One and Infinite. He does not have an opposite. Other than God. all beings and existents each have an opposite. Since man has two opposite aspects in his nature. on inclined to good. the other to evils. angels represent this good aspect. while Satan or Satans. his evil one. Angels invite him to his purely spiritual or ‘angelic’ aspect. while Satan tries to seduce him by calling him to do evil. This struggle between good and evil in man. and in the universe as a whole. has been continuing since the beginning of existence. Everyone feels a stimulus calling him to good and evil at the same time. The stimulus calling him to good comes from angels or his unpolluted spirit; the stimulus inviting him to evil comes from Satan. collaborating with his carnal self. which represents his animal aspect. |

Besides religious scholars. almost all of Muslim philosophers. even all Oriental philosophers. are agreed on the existence of angels and spirit beings of all kinds. although there have been some differences in naming them. Of the schools of philosophy. the Peripatetics. who were much inclined to rationalism. even to materialism. in thought. had to admit the existence of angels. on the grounds that there exists a spiritual. incorporeal essence of each species. As for the Illuminists. they could not deny the existence of angels but wrongly called them ‘Ten Intellects and Masters of Species’. On the other hand. the followers of all the Divine religions. guided by the Divine Revelation. have believed that there is an angel in charge of each kind of existence. They called them by the name of that kind of existence such as ‘the Angel of the mountains. the Angel of the seas. the Angel of rain’. and so on. Even the naturalists and materialists. who have restricted themselves only to what they see. cannot help but admit the meaning of the angels by calling them ‘pervasive forces’. |
